The
Tossers
"Agony"
Victory Records The
Tossers are back again with yet another great release
to take everyone back to school on how to play Celt-Punk
to perfection.
I have yet to find a disc from the Tossers that doesn't
display a consistant progression in pushing the bounds
of music, song-writing, and diversity within Celtic music.
It has been a journey that has captivated me to no end...
and why "The Tossers are the main reason why Paddy
Rock Radio is here today!".
T. Duggin's is a poetic madman with the knack of making
sense of the insanity that drives each and every story
to song on "Agony".... from fighting with ones
own thoughts as if to win... letting the drink take over
to calm the dogs... how love drives you nuts... not letting
the skeletons in your closet direct your future... the
bastards of government killing the youth in the sand...
or believing in ones self to pull out of your personal
hell you've created.
"Agony" has bold lyrics set to some of the best
Celt-Punk & Folk I've heard on any of their recordings...
where once they were compared to the Pogues... with the
original sound they have grown into over the years...
I can now say with confidence bands will soon be compared
to the Tossers.
Other than the profound lyricist in T. Duggins, and the
tight band whom sound like they were born to play this
music backing him with brother Aaron on Whistle, Bones
on drums, Dan on Bass, Clay on Banjo, and Mike on Guitar.....
the major stand out on this disc has to be Rebecca Brooke
and her masterful violin musicianship throughout the disc...
if it wasn't for her added touch... many of these songs
would have gone flat.
Tracks
of interest "Pub And Culture", "Did It
All For You", "The Sheep In The Boots",
"Siobhan", "Traps And Ultimatums",
"Claddagh", "Political Scum","The
Nut House", "Not Forgotten", "Leopardstown
Races" "Movin' On", "Shade",
and "Be"..... awwww shit... just all the fucking
tracks ok... just buy the fucking album or I'll tell everyone
you still wet the bed you drunk bastards!

The
Tossers
"The Valley of the Shadow of Death"
Victory Records Moving
from one record company to the next sometimes makes for
some bad changes. It’s not the case with the Tossers
move from Thick to Victory Records with their latest release
“The Valley of the Shadow of Death”. Since
their past releases in over 12 years, the Tossers have
turned into a band of true traditional Celtic musicians
with a punk rock sound rather than the other way around.
“The Valley of the Shadow of Death” is chalked
full of great tunes from the funny as shit tune "No
Loot, No Booze, No Fun" which shows singer Tony Duggins
wit and humor to "Drinking in the Day" which
was co-written by no other than Bono. All these tracks
are amazing both lyrically and musically and finally give
Flogging Molly a run for their money. Imagine a more coherent
Shane Macgowan backed by the Chieftains if they became
angrier and were not so old. I recommend this CD to anyone
who likes to drink as much as I do and wants to hear music
with a message done to near perfection.

"Custom Of The Sea"
My Checkbook Records
If you like your Celt-Punk with a side order of rockabilly...
then you will love "Custom Of The Sea". Imagine
a Celt-punk band with admiration of Social Distortion while
being brought up by a bunch of pirates. "Custom Of
The Sea" tears down the walls of traditional folk,
Celt, rockabilly, and other music styles and just throws
them into a pot.... mixes it with a splash of bounty rum
and sets the stage on fire. Hell... I've this CD playing
in my car every time I'm getting ready to go out for a high-speed
night of drinking and trouble making.
If you dig the sounds of The Black Irish, Blaggards, Tossers,
or even 50's Rock N' Roll... you'll dig this disc.

Wild Colonial Bhoys
"Irish In America"
Steel Creek Records
The
Wild Colonial Bhoys have taken on an impossible task and
made it work... original songs that hit it big with me both
lyrically and musically throughout a whole CD. A duo of
acoustic guitars with some of the best original tunes I've
heard in a while by a duo turned up to 11 with their rockin'
band backing them. The best way to describe their sound
on this CD is take the Young Dubliners, The Elders, Carbon
Leaf, and Great Big Sea into a blender... you'd have a Wild
Colonial Bhoy smoothie! Pick this one up... you won't be
disappointed!

"With All Due Respect"
429 Records The
Young Dubs are back with another LP for 2007... and I
nearly wet myself with glee when I played the whole disc!
Finally an all Irish song album by one of the best Celtic
Rock bands in the world playing this music as it should
be played... Loud... Fast... and by superb musicians!
Covering such Trad tunes as "I'll Tell Me Ma",
"Follow Me Up To Carlow", "The Leaving
of Liverpool" with some Behan tunes of "McAlpine's
Fusileers"and "Auld Triangle", and even
some McGowan tracks with "Fall From Grace With God"
and "Pair Of Brown Eyes", all done to perfection.
After covering Celtic Rock over the past 6 years I can
finally say "This is the best Celtic Rock LP I have
ever listened to from first to last track!"
If
you want THE Celtic Rock LP for 2007... This is it my
friends... pick it up as soon as you can. You will not
be disappointed!!
